Waiting for Smart WiFi

January 23rd, 2006 | by ka edong |

I’ve been waiting for Smart WiFi to announce another promotion similar to their waived installation fee in 2005. But I’ve challenged my EQ enough and couldn’t wait any longer.

I’ve applied for a Smart WiFi subscription. Yes, I have. Despite all the warnings from dissatisfied subscribers.

Here’s a chronology so far:

Day 1, Friday, 8:30pm:

I fill-up a paper application form at Smart Wireless center at Robinson’s Galleria. I present an ID. That’s simple, isn’t it? Unlike applications for cellphone subscriptions, there is no need for proof of billing, or employment certificate or credit card verification.

I’m told to expect an SMS message with a reference number within 3-5 days. Then after payment of P1,988 (installation fee + first month monthly subscription), to expect installation within 4-7 working days. The schedule of installation will be coordinated with me through a phone call soon after delivery of equipment.

Day 2, Saturday, 1:42:09 pm:

I receive an SMS message

From: SMART WiFi
21Jan 1334: Thank U for choosing SMARTWiFi. A SMART Rep will call u to arrange equipment delivery and payment options. Payment Ref# 1204484079xx

Funny, take note of the date in the message above. Yes, that’s year 1334!

Day 2, Saturday, 7:12 pm:

I receive a call from telephone number 02672788. The person at the other end introduced himself as a Smart WiFi representative. He told me that they will be delivering the equipment within the next 4 days. I told him to call me before they deliver the equipment.

That’s what’s happening so far. I’m expecting a few glitches sooner or later (just to keep my expectations low), but so far so good.
