Smart WiFi Clippings - Inq7.net and Pinoy.Tech.Blog

On Inq7.net, Erwin Oliva brings together a good sampling of the ups and downs of Smart WiFi in “Smart wi-fi subscribers have mixed reactions on service“. I like Abe’s market oriented perspective when he was quoted saying:

“Scouring from the dozens and dozens of feedback from current users, the biggest issue by far is the ‘fidelity’ of the connection,” Olandres wrote. He explained many factors can affect the reliability of connection of the service, such as weather conditions and the like.

“And since Smart, or PLDT for that matter, is all alone in this market, we won’t see any difference in terms of service reliability and customer support (worse). We’ve already witnessed how broadband penetration, pricing and bandwidth have improved with the number of providers increasing. What we need is another player like Globe’s GlobeQuest service going the same WiFi route. Will Sun Cellular go the same route via Eastern Telecoms or BayanTel? [That] remains be seen,” he continued.

On Pinoy.Tech.Blog, I wrote a reply to some of the comments about the article “Smart WiFi - an alternative perspective“:

I’m half-expecting downtimes. Maiinis din ako pag-ganun, I’m sure. You’ll hear it from me too if/when I experience the downtimes.

Technology is just a tool. It will cause us headaches only if we let it to get on our nerves. I’ll just keep in mind that there are alternatives.

Perspective:
Remember the days of dial-up when you needed to dial many times just to get connected? Remember how we’d get just 24kbps or get disconnected after an hour or so?

Mas nadarama natin ang epekto ng downtime ng Smart WiFi unlimited broadband dahil tumaas ang expectations natin at pangangailangan nating maging connected.

I say:
Smart WiFi has the potential to connect Filipinos in 7,107 islands to broadband internet, to connect even the most remote barrio to the rest of the world.

Where else on earth can you find such an affordable technology that can do that?
