Gmail Error: LAN related?
January 3rd, 2006 | by ka edong |I’m trying to configure Gmail POP3 so that I can read and reply to my Gmail messages while offline (e.g. commuting or composing messages from home where I currently don’t have an internet connection).
After following configuration instructions, I received the following error:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: ‘pop.gmail.com’, Server: ’smtp.gmail.com’, Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0×800CCC0E
I’m using Windows XP and Outlook Express. I also tried it using Outlook 2003 and got a similar error there too.
I’m thinking it might have something to do with our office LAN. I won’t push it.
But if anybody out there has any solutions in mind, do send.

Yup, it turned out to be LAN related. I got Gmail POP3 to work using Thunderbird … but it works when I’m outside our office LAN

Any ideas why? I’m facing the same exact problem. My POP3 Gmail works perfectly with the connection at home but fails with the LAN connection supplied by the ISP at work. I’m also behind a wireless router so it could even be the router. Can’t really figure out where the problem is. Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

It’s probably the security settings of your local LAN. Ask your MIS, they should know how to allow your POP3 Gmail.

I’m experiencing the same problem with a program called blat. I know that smtp.gmail.com is LISTENING on ports 465 and 586. Looking through blat’s logs it seems like the gmail server did not respond.

Hi Jack,
One fix that worked for me (on another computer showing the same problems) was to update Windows, update internet explorer (and thus update outlook express).
Goodluck!

think i just found the solution to this issue… apart from changing the in and out servers as pop.googlemail.com & smtp.googlemail.com; in the username field type in ur entire gmail address (with @gmail.com) instead of just the username (eg : type abc@gmail.com instead of just abc IN the username field)
that fixed my problem !!

Error securing server: ‘pop.gmail.com’. IF THIS PROBLEM PERSISTS THERE IS ONLY 1 WAY TO GET RID IS TO FORMAT THE HARD DISK (ACTUALLY THERE ARE MORE THAN 2200 REGISTRY ENTRIES OF INCREDIMAIL WHICH UPON UNINSTALLING DOES NOT REMOVE FROM REGISTRY AND DELETING MANUALLLY IS NOT POSSIBLE). INSTALL A CLEAN INCREDIMAIL AFTER FORMATING. IT WILL WORK FINE. BE CAREFULL DO NOT RESTORE DATA FROM INCREDIMAILDATA.CAB, OTHERWISE IT WILL NOT ABLE TO SECURE CONENCTION FROM GMAIL POP/SMTP.
