Techie Street Performer

September 20th, 2005 | by ka edong |

Eric the Busker Along Orchard Road, SingaporeMaya and I were walking along Orchard Road last month in Singapore. There was a well dressed street performer and I thought he was playing a Chinese tune, yun pala “Desperado” yung tugtog niya.

He was playing the guitar with one deformed arm, he was blowing on a harmonica, he had a tambourine strapped to one foot and a cow bell on the other foot. He was wearing earphones too and had a speaker conveniently strapped to a stroller.

Eric has his music in CDs! Soon he'll be podcasting, don't you think? But this is what caught my attention. Indie CDs! This Caucasian performer, “Eric the Busker” sells his own music on CDs. It costs 15 Singapore Dollars (around P480) and it’s packaged quite nicely.

Keep on playing those tunes, Eric! When will you be available on iTunes?

p.s. When I told my brother about Eric the Busker, my brother said “Wala siya dun sa gitarista sa Session Road nuon. He played the guitar with his feet!” Oh yeah, I remember him. He had no hands. I wonder where this man is now.
