MyTV by SMART is a service, it’s supposed to be the country’s first mobile TV right in your hand. So it’s TV anytime anywhere. It’s not download, it’s a broadcast of TV shows.

Smart MyTV

TV shows from channels like:

  • Cartoon Network
  • Entertainment Central
  • Jack TV
  • PInoy Box Office
  • MTV
  • CNN
  • PBA
  • Solar Sports
  • National Geographic Channel
  • History Channel.

This is a service of SMART available for subscribers for free, for free trial until August 31, 2007. It’s available only to two kind of handsets and one of them is the N92 and the other is the N97 or something.

But SMART carries only the N92 handset right now. If you want to subscribe you, you can call *6988 or call *881111. After the trial period, beginning September the subscription fee would be 488 pesos per month on top of your mobile subscription. And that’s unlimited tv in the palm of your hand for 488 pesos per month.

I think that’s too expensive. If they’re going to give to me 100 pesos per month maybe I will subscribe but 488 per month I’m not watch going to watch TV on my cellphone for 488 pesos per month. Kayo ba, will you?

Here is a little more additional information about MyTV, SMart Mobile TV.

I got to talk to a promoter, a model in SM megamall a few days ago. And she said lock-in period for the MyTV subscription is 14 months. This is different, this is apart from the lock-in period if you purchase the new phone, the TV phone..if you get a retention plan for the TV phone to SMART. The cellphone subscription lock in period is 24 months. There are 10 channels currently and they say they are going to expand to more channels later on.

Here is some inside information I found out. I hear that GMA and ABS-CBN have the capability to broadcast channels, broadcast tv in the same phone that SMART is selling to the public. It can pick up the signal of GMA and ABS-CBN. This is something that they can do in the future-that networks can do int he future. And this is a potential pitfall of the MyTV service.

Another piece of information, I hear that SMART has spent billions in the setting up of the infrastracture for this service. WOW that’s a lot to recoup, no wonder they are charging 488.

On a last note, P488 is a big amount, I wouldn’t subscribe to watching tv on my cellphone at 488 pesos per month. If it were 50 pesos per month, I would subscribe. If it were 100 pesos per month, I would subscribe but at 500 no thanks I’d rather talk to my phone, I’d rather record a podcast.

So let’s see how myTV will pickup.

There are already China-made dual-sim cellphones available locally with built-in tv tuners. Why pay for live streaming television broadcast when you can watch live broadcasts for free? I’m sure nobody will be sitting with their mobile phones for hours on end just to watch tv programs. As far as I can see a few minutes of news broadcast or perhaps some Wowowee or EatBlaga lang ang panonoorin ng majority. Other that that it’ll just be an expensive novelty like what 3G video calls has become here. Unless the price comes down further, mahirap nga yan i-justify sa increased monthly gastos.

As what Gilbert said…why spend money for it. first thing to consider, Philippines is a developing country and so, poverty is present…instead of spending 488 pesos per month with that, i rather watch TV at home…using local networks.

One thing that should be…and must be lower down, i think 150 pesos, i bid it for that price.
