Smart GPRS charges changed

I got my phone bill the other day. Was surprised my GPRS bill run up to P120 whereas it used to stay below P30.
Turns out Smart has changed the way they charge for GPRS. It used to be something like P0.25 per Kb. Now it’s P10 per 30minutes, flat rate.
Now it’s no longer ideal for me to use POP3 on my mobile. It used to take less than a minute to send mail, spend around P2-3 for a regular message. Now it will cost me P10 even if I just send one sentence.
Checking Gmail mobile is not ideal either. I’m not a mobile-browing-babad kind guy. I just check Gmail mobile when I have urgent emails. Well, not anymore.
If I’m soooooo bored, maybe I’d take on that P10/30mins. But only if I’m extremely bored.
