N70 3G phone used for demonstrating Smart's "Next 3iG Thing" can do video conference calls and more. How much will 3G cost?

Smart hasn’t set the price yet. But according to Ms. Emerald who demonstrated the 3G service, it might cost around P10 to P15 per minute for video conference calls. As for GPRS rates and other services via 3G, she couldn’t tell yet.

To subscribe to 3G, a user will need a new 3G SIM. The 3G cellphone number will be different from the existing GSM cellphone number.

The subscriber will also need a 3G handset. There are a couple of 3G phones already available through Smart Wireless centers. The list of 3G handsets includes the Nokia 70, Nokia 90 and 91. Other 3G handsets from outside the Philippines can be used together with a Smart 3G SIM.

Nokia’s 3G-enabled handsets and their prices for low and high monthly plans:

N90 P30,700 with a plan 500; P7,700 with a plan 5,000
N6680 P 28,500 with a plan 500; P5,500 with a plan 5,000
N70 P24,000 with a plan 500; P1,000 with a plan P5,000
N6630 P19,600 with a plan 500; free with a plan 5,000

Smart hasn’t come out with 3G service packages yet. Thus, the 3G-capable handsets are currently being offered with the only the regular services such as WAP, GPRS and MMS. 3G service subscriptions are currently not available to the general public.
