I can’t bank on Mobile Banking

January 12th, 2006 | by ka edong |

In October 2005, I applied for a Globe-BPI mobile banking service called BPI Express Mobile. The service promised to let transact with BPI through my mobile phone just like I do on the Internet via www.BPIexpressonline.com. I’d be able to check my balances, transfer funds, pay bills etc.

[sarcasm tag] Yey! I’ll be able to pay bills anytime, anywhere! [/sarcasm tag]

I haven’t gotten the service to work. Sayang kasi there were some instances where mobile banking would have been perfect for my situation. Like during the All Saint’s day weekend last November, when all banks were closed, I was on the road from Vigan going up to Baguio, and I urgently needed to transfer funds to my brother. I whipped out my Globe SIM hoping it would solve my needs. Nada. Sayang.

I applied for the service in October, my SIM bogged down because they “upgraded” my SIM by mistake (it didn’t need the upgrade). Now, January 2006, I still don’t have the service. I tried it out the other day, I tried a balance inquiry and I got this error:

Mobile phone is not enrolled in BPI Express Mobile. To enroll, visit any branch or logon to www.bpiexpressonline.com. For details, call 8911. Ref#4113964.

Now, I’m trying to get the service up and running. I’ve been referred back to BPI Megamall where I originally enrolled the service. They re-enrolled me. Nyerp. I don’t know, let’s see how it goes this time around.

Haaaayyyy….. My BPI buhaaaayyyyy….

      hi!

im actually itching to jump in to the mobile banking stuff and then, i saw this blog. Sayang…Im a Globe user and because of my job (call center agent a.k.a. vampire) i would need to whip some cash to my family back in the province even at nighttime. Questions po: should I take the risk and enroll my BPI account? or should I consider Smart’s MB system instead?

      thanks!

      Hi Jim,

Frankly, I think Globe-BPI’s service is superior to the other mobile banking services I’ve seen. Basically because it’s menu driven and not SMS keyword driven. Secondly because I know that BPI has good support services through 89-100 if ever anything goes wrong.

I think i’m an unlucky client, getting the bad end of the BPI Express Mobile service activation.

After all my horrors stories have been said, i’d still say go for it, try it out. It might be the answer to your needs.

Reminder: At your own risk ;-)

bpi express mobile has been very useful for me. i’m very happy with it.

especially when i’m on the road. i can pay the bills i forgot to pay, or even load my partner’s prepaid globe account.

      you should try it.

      Hi Erich,

      Unfortunately,
I haven’t gotten around to trying it.
      I don’t have a Globe handset :-( .

I’ll let you know when I use the Globe SIM ;-)
