PLDT Waho - Work at home call center solution

June 3rd, 2007 | by ka edong |

The w@ho (Work At Home) PLDT Advertisement on Inquirer reads:

Off the top of your head… How many call center agents are you going to lose this year?

w@ho (Work At Home) is service of PLDT that equips call center agents with a high-quality internet connection at home. Quality of connection is (supposedly) so good that they can take voice calls (voip) and connect to their employer’s call centre infrastructure as if they were right there inside the call center office.

This is a good solution. It will help our call center kababayans “get a life”. It gives call center agents more time with family at home, reduces commute time and reduced risk from travelling during odd hours.

It also helps call centers bring down operating costs. For example, the call center can have 1,000 agents at their respective homes and won’t have to maintain a large office space. All the other costs of maintaining a flock of 1,000 agents (electricity, security, supplies etc.) will be reduced.

Lastly, this allows more of our workforce to enter into the call center industry which, prior to working at home, requires the physical presence of an agent at the call center’s office. Now a single mother, for example, won’t have to sacrifice her call center career because she can have both career and time with the baby.

This will work for call centers that don’t handle sensitive information. The problem is that most call centers do.

Majority of them are outbound campaigns which are call centers’ primary source of income.

      hi jp,

      Thanks for sharing!

I think there are ways to handle sensitive info, both human and systems solutions.
Entrepreneurs make it work, corporations can too.

I have a friend with a Medical transcriptions business.
Around 70% of his transcriptionists work from home (or at their nearby internet shop).
Some of his transcriptionists he has *never* met face-to-face.

If someone was interested in this, where does one apply?

What other work at home can there be? Aside from doing call center stuff?

      [Reply to this comment]

    6. By ka edong on Jun 20, 2007 | Reply

I believe it’s a corporate solution. Not available for retail customers.
Other work at home stuff: medical/legal transcriptions, animation, digital design, autocadd, editing, picking one’s nose
… think of any computer/telephone-based work that does not require physical presence in the office — these can be done at home.

      :-)

      hi mhel.

This is not an online job offer. it’s a corporate solution to enable enterprises to allow their call center agents to do their work from home.

see http://www.2minutecommute.com/ for some ideas on how to work from home.

this is good, but problem with most pldt modems, it doesn’t work with VoIP devices, needs to do major reconfiguration first, and it sucks big time!

      [Reply to this comment]

major reconfiguration of PLDT modems? Really?
I suppose that will be covered for the subscriber by the W@ho service team.

      Sent to my email:

      dear ka edong,

am a little bit scared on companies advertising home based jobs because after informing you of what to do information, they are in the end asking for money as registration fee.

i think this is not proper because they need your services and if one qualifies or can do the job why ask for registration fee?

besides i don’t know how to background check this company.

i need your advise. thank you.

      My reply:

I don’t have the details of your dealings with this company. These are some of the questions I would ask:

      What do they offer?
What are they asking for from you (service / money / time)?
What is the name of the company?
Is it based in the Philippines?
What is their office address, phone number, website, email address?
What is their SEC registration or business registration number?

Is this for real or what?

I’m an ex OFW, 45 years old, a college grad with vast office working experience and can communicate in English pretty well having worked in a U.S. territory for 10 years.

I’m interested but can’t get any details on this matter.

There are a lot of work at home opportunities. But sad to say, there’s also a lot of scam work at home opportunities.

For me, I do employ some people to work for me (work at home). I have people write blogs for me.

      Example

      http://www.chikamuna.com
      http://www.gadgetmetro.com
      http://www.manicmobile.com
      http://www.lindsaywatch.com
      http://www.fashionempress.com
      http://www.hiltonbuzz.com

      and some other blogs.

Sometimes I have SEO (search engine optimization) related project and I assign them to people who work for me.

There are a lot more ideas. You can check it out at my blog http://www.2minutecommute.com

      * May I select the most suitable time for me or maybe the suitable shift?
      * Do you have an account with weekend rest days?
      * What’s the name of the company?
      * May I know what accounts you have and positions?
