Maya and I were in Singapore back in August. We had some time to spend in the Singapore Library at the city center. It’s a very new building, earth-friendly and very well-equipped. Let me tell you about their eKiosks…
The Singapore Library has these information kiosks available to the public.
Users can use the kiosk to search the database of books. Because the Singapore Library has a network of libraries around the country, the search results includes the location of the books (which library branch). We tried searching for some Filipino keywords such as “Jose Rizal” and the name of Maya’s boss who publishes religious writings. They Singapore Library had a lot of books on Rizal and had the most recent published works of Maya’s boss!
Members of the Library can also check their accounts at these kiosks, repleace or issue Membership cards, Top Up their pre-paid accoutns or the cash cards. There’s this card in Singapore they call “EZ Link”. It’s generally used in trains and buses but it can also be used to pay for books at the library. Members could also use their ATMs or membership cards to conduct transactions with the eKiosks.
The kiosk has some slots too for data downloads. You could insert a USB stick or memory card to download digital content. I wonder what kind of content you could download. Perhaps search results could be saved. It would be really convenient of some eBooks are available for download too. Pwede kaya?
Samantala … sa pinas meron namang NBI time-in time-out kiosk! hahahaa! Mahanap nga ulit yung SSS kiosk para ma-kwento dito. Lagi kasing di gumagana yung sa SM Megamall, eh.
