Surfing via 3G
February 16th, 2006 | by ka edong |The live 3G streaming videos from ABS-CBN and ANC were quite good. If streaming video was good, I should expect a good Internet connection as well.
The first two times we tried to connect to the Internet via the 3G phone, a notification would say something like “connecting to the server”. Then, after ten seconds or so, I would get “server connection could not be established.”
We tried again and again. Lance did some magic, he mentioned that he had to clear the cache. After a couple more attempts, we were connected. To check, I loaded Google and did a search. We were surfing the Internet via a 3G phone. (see photo of 3G phones)
I asked what Internet speed we were on. Lance said it can go as fast as 460kbps. That’s supposed to be really fast (around 7 times faster than dial-up).
But I knew that what I was seeing on the 3G phone wasn’t 460kbps. It was slow. It was slooooooooowwwwww. I tried logging on to Gmail to check my mail. I never made it to the sign-up page. Tough luck for me.
Next, we tried out surfing the Net via a laptop using the 3G phone as a wireless modem … more on that tomorrow.
