Cuyonon Dictionary via Wiki?

I found an interesting story in the recent Sunday Inquirer Magazine.

It was about Ester Timbancaya-Elphick who aims to preserve her native tongue: Cuyonon (language spoken in Cuyo, Palawan).

You see, I’m a self-proclaimed adopted-Cuyonin (refers to a person from Cuyo, Palawan). And I’m wondering how I can help Ester with her project.

(Read Guro Sa Cuyo to understand how I turned Cuyonon).

In essence, Ester is documenting the Cuyonon language through audio recording or Cuyonon conversation, written language and songs.

I’m sure Ester has things in order. The project is slated to finish in a few months. But I was just wondering whether a wikipedia-style dictionary will work for this project.

I haven’t done much wiki-surfing. Conceptually, I know that it’s an open dictionary, free for anybody to contribute to and edit definitions. It relies on the vigilance of community members to keep the definitions accurate and up-to-date.

Can the Wiki work for this Cuyonon dictionary? I wonder if it’s relevant to Ester’s project.

Here’s a shout out to Ester and folks at the Cuyonon Language and Culture Project (CLCP). I’m interested in what you guys are up to. Do send me an e-mail, maybe (just maybe) there’s something I can contribute.

      King king anay Wawa

      King king anay wawa
      Sulan ta kaw langka
      langkang ara unod
      kapayas na mangod

      Translation:
      Sayaw muna, ibon
      Bigyan kita ng langka
      langka na walang laman
…. ??di ko maalala ang last line ?? ….

There’s a Cuyonon band, they have a CD called “Latong Cuyo”. Hanap ka sa mga stores. Goodluck!
