ATM-TV, ATM-flyers
March 13th, 2006 | by ka edong |I was about to use a BPI ATM, but there was a lady at the machine somewhat hesitant to use the ATM. She pressed some buttons on the ATM, turned to me and asked: “Ganyan ba talaga ‘yan?”
She was seeing the ATM screen acting like a TV flashing BPI advertisements.
Here are two new ways I’ve seen BPI improve their ATMs.
Some BPI ATMs can give out flyers! Yup, flyers! I was withdrawing the other day. While waiting for my cash to come out, a piece of paper came out of the receipt slot. It was a paper print-out of a BPI promotion.
Nifty, huh? From here on, BPI could give out flyers for a highly targeted market. BPI knows, for example, that the client has money (from the ATM withdrawal) at the moment that the client receives the flyer. BPI knows the location of the client, thus could promote the usage of EPS (Electronic Payment System) at nearby establishments.
What else can an ATM-cum-flyer-distributor do?
What else can an ATM-TV do?

I always get the flyer. It’s a waste of paper. I akreadt opt not to get the printed statement, since I use the Express Cash Card anyway.

Yes, BPI’s debit card. I leave the real ATM card linked to my account at home. I only keep a few thousand pesos max there - and usually less than 1K.

Natutuwa ako sa BPI, how they’re making debit cards so easy to access - only P100 (or even free) for a debit card. It comes in handy too for receiving remittances.
I’ve seen how the economic profile of BPI ATM users has spread to include the laborers and informal workers.
