NBI Tech - Biometric Bundy Clock

November 14th, 2005 | by ka edong |

There’s a Biometrics time-in/time-out machine at NBI Carriedo. It’s something out of a Science Fair, what with the crude but clever way the machine was packaged.

The machine has a couple of components:

NBI Tech: Biometrics bundy clock

  • First, it has a computer monitor that displays a list of people who recently timed-in/out.
  • Second, there is a fingerprint scanner. There were some senior citizens using the machine. I thought they were just tech tinkering. They weren’t sure if they should use their index finger or thumb on the fingerprint scanner.
  • Third, a keyboard overlayed by a piece of plywood. It was constructed such that only some portions of the keyboard can be pressed:
    • two function keys - a selector for time-in or time-out
    • the numeric keypad - to input a unique PIN corresponding to the fingerprint
    • the backspace key - to clear any input mis-types

Not bad. Except that it looks like a student project. The machine could use a paint job.

The whole organization would need that too, and more.
