A gentleman named “Mandrake” answered my call. He asked for my subscriber account number but all I could give him was my name. He took my name and put me on hold. Two minutes later, he was back on the line and this was the essence of his message:
After checking your account, we have found that the cellsite that you are connected to is undergoing system enhancements.

Here’s what the installers did when they came to hook me up to Smart WiFi.
First things first: Visual check for a Smart cellphone tower
Second: Check for signal strength.
Third: Affix the antenna
Fourth: Connect my computer to the antenna
Last: Activation
Done. Finished. Done in two hours.
And then! trouble …

I’ve been waiting for Smart WiFi to announce another promotion similar to their waived installation fee in 2005. But I’ve challenged my EQ enough and couldn’t wait any longer.
I’ve applied for a Smart WiFi subscription. Yes, I have. Despite all the warnings from dissatisfied subscribers.

Singapore WiFi hotspot hunting

Singapore is such an Internet connected country. Pagdating pa lang sa Changi airport, they have so many Internet kiosks with free Internet access. Another Internet connection option is to go sniffing for WiFi hotspots.

My first encounter with a vendo machine was in John Hay, circa 1980. They had Dr. Pepper in can in exchange for a dime.
Fast forward 25 years where I have three vendo stories to share. First is the Vendo text. Second is the vendo internet kiosks in Singapore. Third is the GSM vendo pay phone.

We drifted from the city center when we were in Singapore. We wanted to catch the Night Safari which was around 45 minutes away by train. But when we got there, the train staff said that we won’t make it to the night safari on time.
