My Google Talk has been gathering dust. I haven’t been using it for quite some time.
A few nights ago, I had a short chat with good ole’ friend Chris (http://chrislagman.com/blog/) via Google Talk. Chris has a DSL connection at home, I have Smart WiFi. Our VOIP call had good audio quality, crisp and clear audio […]

My wrist hurts. Bind the pinky

Published on 21 Aug 2006 at 6:18 am. 5 Comments.

I hurt my wrist from extended hours of computer use. It’s something like carpal tunnel syndrome.
It wasn’t because of my mouse nor touchpad.
I figured it was because of how I hit the “shift” or “enter” key of my keyboard. I use my right pinky finger and twist my wrist while maintaining my right index finger […]

Surfing for Daily Reflections

I got this link from my officemate 6 months ago, from the popular small book of daily reflections, Our Daily Bread.

It’s a good way to start my work day. It’s the first thing I read in the morning before opening my e-mail.

But I’ve been looking for a more Filipino website. I want to read reflections that relate more closely to my Filipino life. Do you know of any?

Puzzle: Techie Lolo asks for email-to-usb app

Published on 24 May 2006 at 6:26 am. 4 Comments.

Sent this to fellow-PTBloggers last night:

Techie Lolo is asking for my help:

Techie Lolo travels a lot. He wants to save outbound emails to his flashdisk (from his laptop)
then send and receive e-mail from flashdisk at an Internet shop when leaves his hotel and goes around town.
He prefers this over having to lug around his laptop searching for a WiFi hotspot.

PTBloggers, Any ideas on how this can be done?
I couldn’t find anything similar on the net.
But I’m sure somewhere out there, somebody has thought of this already.

‘Ole reliable PTBloggers had a solution within 1.5 hours of my email! Kewl!

Google Calendar: No good for me

I was able to export my Outlook Calendar and imported it to Google Calendar. Quite seamless. Google Calendar displayed daily, weekly and monthly calendars as well as Agenda view. Further, I see my calendar can be shared to my selected contacts.

What use could I have for Google Calendar?

Hotspot Hunting: Robinson’s Pioneer

It was a hotspot waiting to be born. Robinson’s Pioneer now has a WiFi hotspot that is free-as-in-beer, free-as-in-”free for all”.

I tried it out but my laptop wasn’t cooperating. Regardless, the lady at the information booth said the WiFi access areas are mostly at the second floor, above the fountain area.

Go take it for a ride!

Nine-hour Battery Life on a Laptop!

Published on 21 Mar 2006 at 6:04 am. 15 Comments.

I have a friend who was struggling to maximize his laptop battery lifespan. The old battery used to give him 2-3 hours of computing time. The battery degraded so much through the years that he ended up getting only around 30 minutes of computing time.

The joke is: he’s running on wireless internet but still needs to lug around a power adaptor and get wired to a power outlet.

So he tweaked his system …

Ah, we looooooveeee VoIP!

My brother is in London. I caught him online via Gmail and Google Chat. We quickly shifted to Skype for a voice call.

Nakakatuwa. We both had good internet connections (he at his hotel lobby and I via Smart WiFi). And the Skype pc-to-pc call was superb.
