Vigan surfing turns porn-y!
October 28th, 2005 | by ka edong |I had a Skype appointment last night so I searched the streets of Vigan for a decent Internet shop. And the best I could find at that time of the night was a gaming Internet café run by some homeboys where half of the clients were their kabarkadas. 20-ish hard-core gamers, rockers … that type.
I settled in despite my natural aversion for this noisy and dark ambience customary for hard-core gaming shops.
The DSL connection was very fast indeed. My test calls to my Skype phonepal were seamless, crack-less, without delay.
Towards the end of my session, I was about to close all my windows when I received an email from a Pinoy.Tech.Blog ka-blog. I received a URL related to a story being drafted.
My my my! My mother would faint! I’m seeing a mobile blogging service sponsored by a Addict Mobile and it’s displaying hardcore amateur porn! These are mobile phone photos sent to the website via MMS through an access code of Smart.

I wrote back to my PTB ka-blogs: “The guys at Smart obviously don’t know what they’ve gotten themselves into!”
I went back to the Addict mobile-branded webpage. It was hosted by a third-party MMS-to-Blog service provider. But the telco’s blog was clearly branded with their endorsers, color scheme, brand name etc.
I wanted to find out the extent of the porn (there were some non-porn photos). I wanted to see if the porn was submitted by just one person. Nope. More than one person was submitting and more than a handful of photos per person.
And then the page stopped loading. I waited a bit. It was unusual because the other pages I surfed in the past minutes loaded very quickly. After a while, I ended my brief detour with porn and ended my Vigan Internet surfing.
As I was paying, that’s the only time I realized that my page was being filtered at the shop’s server. Hahaha! I didn’t realize I was being watched! By the gamerz behind me! I didn’t bother explaining that I was checking out the page out of academic/research purposes.
I know what you’re thinking…. Excuses excuses. ‘Ba! Bahala kayo!
