Attack of the Bl0g Spammers
April 4th, 2006 | by ka edong | Wordpress is able to screen out spam comments with multiple links to commercial sites selling pharmaceuticals or other products. Cool.
But wordpress doesn’t screen seemingly legitimate entries that just say:
Hi
Buy X*n*x ?
So the past two days, I’ve been manually deleting these comments. Almost 30 comments each day for the past two days.
I don’t want to make this my morning ritual.
What should I use to combat against these spammers?

I found the Akismet plugin to work great here. It came with my Wordpress 2 install (is that what you’re using?) but I had to signup to Wordpress.com to get the “key” to make the plugin work.

Right. Use Akismet and moderate those who have more than one link. Just a backup plan. Akismet sometimes conks.

thanks ealden, kates. I haven’t migrated to wp 2.0. Wala pang plano. But with all this spam, that gives me a better reason to migrate and use akismet.
I’m wondering if there’s akismet for wp1.5.2 …..

Yey! Ha! Akismet to the rescue!
Akismet works for wp 1.5.2 and above. Just installed it now. It has screened one spam so far.
